How to make the perfect cold brew at home

Let’s dive into some easy cold brew methods to help you stay cool and caffeinated!

What you'll need:

  • The Beanery’s coffee beans (coarsely ground)
  • Cold brew maker or a large jar
  • Filter (cheesecloth or fine mesh)
  • Water (preferably filtered)
  • Ice
  • Optional: Milk or syrup for sweetening

The classic cold brew

This is the easiest and most common method for making cold brew at home. It’s all about letting time do the work while the coffee slowly infuses, creating a smooth, less acidic drink.

Steps to take:

  1. Grind Your Coffee
    Start with a coarse grind—about the texture of sea salt. You'll need a ratio of 1:4 (1 part coffee to 4 parts water). For example, 100 grams of The Beanery’s coffee beans to 400ml of water for a strong brew.

  2. Mix Coffee and Water
    In your cold brew maker or large jar, combine the ground coffee with cold or room temperature water. Stir to ensure all the grounds are saturated.

  3. Let It Steep
    Cover the jar and let the mixture sit in the fridge for 12-24 hours. The longer it steeps, the stronger the brew.

  4. Strain the Coffee
    After steeping, use a cheesecloth or fine mesh filter to strain out the grounds. You’ll be left with smooth, concentrated cold brew.

  5. Serve
    Pour the cold brew over ice and dilute with water or milk to your preferred strength. Add sweeteners or syrups if desired.
